Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last of the weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 303-647-5853 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
