What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Denver always talks about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
